Pointing fixes it. We rake out the failing mortar and repoint the joints with new mortar matched to your wall in color, texture, and strength, so the repair blends in and the wall is sealed again.
What’s included
Wall inspection
We look at the whole wall and find why the mortar failed, such as a bad gutter, coping, or sill.
Raking out
We cut out the old mortar to a consistent depth so the new mortar bonds properly.
Matched repointing
New mortar packed in layers, matched to your wall in color and strength.
Joint tooling
Finished joints shaped to match the existing wall so the repair blends in.
Spot brick replacement
Cracked or spalled bricks replaced while we’re there.
Cleanup and sealing
We clean the brick and can apply a breathable water repellent where it helps.
Signs it needs work
- Mortar that’s sandy, recessed, or easy to scrape out with a key
- Stair-step cracks running through the mortar joints
- White chalky staining on the brick (efflorescence)
- Brick faces flaking or popping off (spalling)
- Water stains or peeling paint on interior walls near the exterior wall
Pointing is preventive maintenance. Doing it when joints first start to fail is far cheaper than rebuilding a section of wall after water has done its damage.
