Concrete Sidewalks

Concrete Sidewalk Repair & Replacement in NYC

In New York City, property owners are generally responsible for keeping the sidewalk in front of their property in safe condition. Raised flags, wide cracks, and broken curbs are trip hazards, and they can lead to violations or liability claims.

We replace damaged sidewalk flags, fix trip hazards, and pour new sidewalks for homes, storefronts, and multifamily buildings, built to the city’s requirements for public sidewalks.

What’s included

Sidewalk flag replacement

We saw-cut and remove broken or raised flags and pour new concrete that sits flush with its neighbors.

Full sidewalk replacement

New sidewalk across the full frontage of your property.

Trip-hazard repair

Fixing lifted joints and uneven sections before someone gets hurt.

Violation work

Repairs to address sidewalk defects cited by the city, with the paperwork you need.

Curbs and aprons

Curb and driveway apron work where the sidewalk meets the street.

Walkways and entry pads

Private concrete walks and landings leading to your door.

Signs it needs work

  • Flags raised or sunk relative to the ones next to them
  • Cracks running across the full width of a flag
  • Chunks missing or crumbling concrete
  • Tree roots lifting the sidewalk
  • A sidewalk violation notice from the city

Small defects can often be fixed by replacing just a few flags. If the sidewalk is failing along most of the frontage, a full replacement is usually cleaner and more cost-effective.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who is responsible for the sidewalk in front of my house?

In NYC, the adjacent property owner is generally responsible for maintaining the sidewalk, with some exceptions such as certain one-, two-, and three-family owner-occupied homes for liability purposes. Check the NYC DOT website or ask us and we can point you in the right direction.

I got a sidewalk violation. What should I do?

Don’t ignore it. Have a contractor look at the cited defects and give you a price. If the city ends up doing the work itself, it can bill the property owner. Call or text us a photo of the notice.

Do I need a permit to replace my sidewalk?

Work on a public sidewalk in NYC generally requires a DOT sidewalk permit. We include the permit process in our proposal.

How long does sidewalk replacement take?

Most residential frontages take one to three days of work, plus a few days of curing before heavy use.
